The Story of Hampton Roads Pet Hospice

While working in emergency medicine, Dr. Tyler Carmack witnessed many pet owners struggling with difficult decisions regarding their beloved pet’s end-of-life care. These medical decisions are very personal, emotional, and confusing for pet owners and their families. When returning to Virginia Beach in 2011, Dr. Carmack formed Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice to offer a more compassionate and personalized service to assist pet owners throughout the end-of-life process and to provide ongoing support after the loss of a loved one. She also founded the Hampton Roads Pet Loss Support Group in January of 2012 to be able to provide a safe, supportive network for those individuals and families requiring additional support as they grieve for their lost friend.

Dr. Tyler Carmack grew up in Virginia Beach and attended Frank W. Cox High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from N.C. State University and is a graduate of N.C. State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation from veterinary school, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, DC and an ophthalmology internship in New York. She has also worked as an emergency clinician at Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists in West Palm Beach. Dr. Carmack currently holds certifications in veterinary acupuncture, Chinese food therapy, and animal hospice and palliative care. Client Testimonials

“Best place to put your pet to rest. I had to put down my fur baby the other day. But I can not even begin to tell you how wonderful they took care of my baby. He was struggling and they made sure to ask all the questions they needed to, to make sure he went peacefully. Every question I had they made sure to answer. I even asked for a paw print so I can get a tattoo of it and they made sure to ask if I wanted the nose as well. A couple days after grieving for my pup, they sent a wonderful letter and some seeds along to plant for my baby. I wish they did do the tradition of kisses for dogs, where they give your dog a Hershey kiss before going over to rainbow heaven, but never the less the pricing and service are unbeatable. If you want your fur baby to be taken care of, these are the people.”
