Looking for Something Better?
Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine is a unique, growing team of veterinarians providing in-home euthanasia and end-of-life comfort care to companion pets (mostly dogs & cats) in Hampton Roads. We are seeking caring, compassionate, and innovative veterinarians to help grow our team. We are looking for veterinarians who are competent and confident end-of-life care mobile practitioners and who will integrate fully with our close-knit team. Every member of our team has a personal drive to offer high-quality, compassionate, and supportive care to pet families in their time of crisis.
What makes working with Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice different?
Serving as a Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine veterinarian is a challenging, but ultimately rewarding career choice. Our DVMs perform the important work of providing compassionate end-of-life care for companion animals, while offering support and care to their families as well. At Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine, we strive for excellence and compassion in everything we do. We seek to hire individuals who are dedicated to our vision, will flourish professionally in this environment, and contribute to the overall greatness of our team. If you are seeking a career shift or a gratifying alternative to traditional veterinary practice, Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine may be the right opportunity for you.
Personalized Care
Veterinarians who join our team are compassionate and empathetic in their face-to-face interactions with clients. This career path involves caring for dogs and cats and their people together as a family unit (and, usually, in their home). To be successful as a team member, you must genuinely enjoy working with people and have a sincere desire to help them through a difficult time. The service we provide requires us to work with people who are experiencing extreme moments of grief, decision-making fatigue, and anxiety. Our veterinarians manage these interactions with kindness and compassion while guiding families in their end-of-life decisions.
Client Gratitude
Our families are forever grateful when our doctors are able to assist their beloved pets in the comfort of home. Being able to prevent and relieve suffering is the most generous thing a pet family can do for their loved ones, and they are so thankful that HRVH veterinarians are able to help them do just that. Our families need and appreciate our services, and the in-person and phone interactions reflect this dynamic. See more client gratitudes here.
“Dear Dr. Schacher,
My deepest gratitude to you for helping our 15-year-old beloved Westie, Bonnie, pass over the rainbow bridge this past Sunday. Your compassionate hugs and words during this heartbreaking and traumatic decision provided my family and me so much comfort. The ability to say goodbye to our sweet baby surrounded by the comforts of her own home made the heart-wrenching decision to let her cross over more bearable.”
Flexible Scheduling
Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine structures our schedules to allow our DVMs the appropriate amount of time to decompress between appointments. We strive for 4 – 6 appointments per day for each of our doctors, and we provide our team with the support and communication they need to do their jobs effectively. Shifts are typically 10-12 hours, with opportunities for overnight shifts, on-call shifts, and rotating weekend shifts at higher compensation.
Mobile Providers
All Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine veterinarians are mobile providers. We seek confident, competent individuals who are comfortable operating solo and working on the road. You will have the ongoing support of the Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice & Integrative Medicine team. To help support our team and maintain standards for excellence in care, there is frequent and consistent communication throughout the shift, both with our care coordinators and often with fellow DVMs. While the expectation is that our DVMs enjoy working alone, our team often connects throughout the day.
Company History
While working in emergency medicine, Dr. Tyler Carmack witnessed many pet owners struggling with difficult decisions regarding their beloved pet’s end-of-life care. These medical decisions are very personal, emotional, and confusing for pet owners and their families. When returning to Virginia Beach in 2011, Dr. Carmack formed Hampton Roads Veterinary Hospice to offer a more compassionate and personalized service to assist pet owners throughout the end-of-life process and to provide ongoing support after the loss of a loved one. She also founded the Hampton Roads Pet Loss Support Group in January of 2012 to be able to provide a safe, supportive network for those individuals and families requiring additional support as they grieve for their lost friend.
